Statistics Discipline

Statistics Discipline under Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) School is one of the new disciplines in Khulna University. Spreading the knowledge of statistics the authority of Khulna University realizes the needs for opening statistics discipline. Statistics discipline was initiated in session 2011-2012. At the undergraduate level, statistics discipline offer majors in statistics, and decision science which can be taken in B.Sc. (Honors) degrees. Besides, the discipline also offers minor courses on statistics for the students of the other disciplines.

The Statistics Discipline at Khulna University is committed to teaching the theory and practice of Statistics to honors students and to conducting original research in statistical theory and methodology. The discipline is distinguished by the faculty's strong interest in the application of statistics to such diverse areas such as public policy, economics, engineering, medicine and life sciences, law, and the social and behavioral sciences.

The discipline is relatively small, and students benefit from small numbers and close interaction with faculty members. The discipline has three missions which are statistics instruction at the honors and higher levels, statistical practice and statistical research. Statistics instruction at the honors and higher levels: Our goal is to teach students how to think statistically, how to appropriately apply useful statistical techniques, and how to perform research to advance statistical thinking and practice in real work.

Statistics Practice: We seek to improve the practice of statistics at Khulna University and outside through our research, teaching, service work, and consulting.

Statistical Research: We seek to advance knowledge by conducting original research in statistical theory and application, broadly viewed.

The research areas include- Data Mining, Econometrics and Quality Control, Demography and Research Methods, Experimental Design and Inference, Sampling Techniques, Inferences and Multivariate Analysis, Time Series Analysis and Forecasting, Demography, Stochastic Process, Computer Package and Programming, Biostatistics and Reliability Theory, Health Statistics, Epidemiology, Bio-informatics, Environmental Statistics and so on. The department has a computer laboratory with modern technology and also has well riches Seminar Library.
